One Little Big Thing

27 03 2009

I am frustrated. I just want to perform and i am finding no outlet. Because i want to sing jazz and get paid. Which sadly is a very hard task to accomplish.

Im trying to have a better look on life. Ive only decided this today so it hasn’t really been put in practise yet but im trying. Things such as, i really dislike one of my jobs but having it allows me every week to get quite a bit closer to getting my motorbike that im saving for. Things such as my new job as a singing teacher was stressing me out alot but i know that i just have to embrace it and love it cause thats why im doing it in the first place.  So, im hoping for a more positve outlook. In all aspects. Because i have some things in life that i am very happy about and very positive about. I have had an amazing person in my life who makes me feel so special, and who i care about so much. I have a great apartment with fantastic housemates and although sometimes i feel like im not doing a whole lot with my time at the moment i know that i am, attending TAFE and getting my theory up to scratch, working with the kids on Saturday and actually getting time to sit down and read a book with a cup of tea.

I want to get into shape so im hoping to exercise and be a bit more active every day now. I really enjoy swimming in the morning but i also like going to the gym in our building so im thinking il try and swap most days, what im most aware of and have been feeling of late is that i need to eat alot better. More veggies and less rich sauces with pasta. So im going to do it rather than just think about it.

I’ve been looking at alot of pin up girl photos lately and i really like the look. At the moment im trying to grow my hair long and im thinking that once it reaches a certain length im going to get it cut in a pin up style with the curled fringe and all! Much like this photo below…

Pin Up Girl Hairstyle

I would like to at some point do a pin up shoot, i think it would be really fun and as i really like the style of clothing i wouldn’t mind buying some new clothes either! :-) I have also looked at perhaps doing a burlesque class with a group i found on the internet. I would really like to get performance experience in all areas including burlesque and circus art so im thinking that once i get my motorbike i might look into doing this course too! So perhaps a term of aerial with circus oz or nica and then perhaps a term of burlesque performance.

On saturday night Kym and I performed at One Night in Heaven, a show promoting up and coming vocalists. It was alot of fun, performing with Kym is so refreshing, I find it relaxing and every time we do a number i just want to do another and another and another. Kym is amazing and everyone was so amazed by his playing as am i every time he does, sometimes i feel like im ruinening it when i open my mouth! Anywyay we had some great feedback from people and im hoping that kym and i may be able to get a gig out of this sometime…somewhere.

On the 4th and 5th of March im performing in the Boy from Oz…again. This time with Footlight Productions in Geelong. One of the girls in the trio is unable to do two of the shows due to school commitments with her VCE so they have asked me to fill in. Its a bit stressful, not in regards to the singing, im sure il have that down fine or at least wing it a little on the nights, whats stressing me is the dance! I only will get to learn it on Saturday! Four days before im in the show! So, im going to film all the numbers. Otherwise i wont be able to learn, i know it!

Well this has been massive. As usual

A small little movie rant

23 01 2009

Aliens really is one of those remarakable movies that out-does its predecssor.. by a long shot.

Im not saying Alien isn’t a great movie, i mean heck it was released in 1979 and still out shines most of alien monstor movies to date, actually in my belief it out shines ALL alien monstor movies to date.  But Aliens just has that little extra more and i cant put my finger on what it is. Seven mintues into the film we see an alien bursting through Ripley’s chest, but its only a dream. Ten minutes in we learn her daughter died at the age of 66, a great deal older than she herself is as she’s been asleep for 57 years. Now the movies that follow unfortunately are absolute tripe. They really are, ecspecially the last in the stand alone alien series which features wyona rider as a robot…oops spolier.

So my rant ends

First Alien good

Second Alien better

Third Alien shit

Fourth Alien terrible

I haven’t been neglecting my blog, i’ve just been so busy the past few weeks with the show and then trying to recover to get straight into working quite allot that i haven’t had the time to sit down properly and think which is sad because quite allot has happened.

Boy From Oz completely blew me away in regards to the feedback and hype we received from the audience. We sold out completely in the second week and had nearly full houses in the first. To play every night to an audience that was receptive and seemed to really enjoy being a part of the show was such an amazing experience, if not completely exhausting. But that really is the magic of Peter Allen. And really the magic of Jordan White who played Peter and who gave such an honest and amazing performance every show, every night. At the Arts Centre at the moment there is an exhibition of Peter Allen’s life right from the start of his career to his death from an HIV/AIDS related illness in 1992. It becomes quite an emotional experience when you see footage of Peter performing as your surrounded by costumes he wore and other possessions of his from when he was writing songs.

Last week i started work at my new job, its working on the Set the Scene exhibition at ACMI – the Australian Centre of the Moving Image. Its alot of standing around but i don’t mind it. Its quite a fun place to work and everyone seems really nice so far so looks like its going to be a good place for me.

I actually have to go work there now, so lots more to come!

sunny days

24 10 2008

Its funny how sometimes moments in your life can seem as if they are scenes in a movie, that is to say that they are picture perfect. Yesterday afternoon was like that, sitting by the lake in the botanical gardens in the heart of Melbourne city watching the ducks, swans and turtles swim around the lake surrounded by other people all just simply sitting there too, enjoying the fact that it was truly beautiful and serene. Jaz and I sat there for nearly two hours and when it was time for us to go we were the only people left on that patch of grass by the water apart from a small group of people who were about to begin a wedding rehearsal. It felt like the very last scene of Notting Hill, when they are sitting in the garden. How beautiful.

Another beautiful thing was something i noticed only the other day at work. In the state theatre its possible to ‘donate a chair’ that is, you donate money towards the theatre and a plaque with your name on it is placed on the back of a chair within the theatre. I can’t believe that it was only the other day that i noticed that one of the seats as a message on it, a dedication. I can’t remember exactly what it said but im going to hopefully look tomorrow when i work. It was along the lines of ‘to my beautiful wife who loved the theatre as much as i love and miss her’. I was quite taken aback by the message as their only seems to be names on the others. I thought it was quite cute and old and romantic.

Rex Manning Day

It has been a good weekend so far. Jaz got back on Thursday – Duncan, Zoi and I picked her up. I’ve spent the weekend at Jaz’s spending time with her and Zoi, has been brilliant. Last night was the opening of GLTS Oliver! it went really well. Julie Corneby is a stand out as Nancy alongside Hudson Middlekoop as the artful Dodger. Hudson was amazing in his first role..so proud! Special mention also to gorgeous Michaela, that girl is amazing and is going to go far.

Cleaning to be done around the house in order for our small gathering so only a short post. :)

Ninety Six Thousand

6 10 2008

On Thursday one of the closest people in my life returns to Australia! Jaz has been away in America and Europe and is leaving beautiful Thailand to come home to mediocre Geelong in three days. That said i hope she spends a sizable amount of it in Melbourne with me! Im looking forward to seeing her so much. Returning with Jaz-bub is Duncan, my partner in crime to be quite honest, who i used to sit with and work with at Salesforce. They have been travelling together along with another good mutual friend Bree. Its awesome to think that they will all be back!

I have just returned from Geelong and sadly have to leave for uni in a few minutes. I left my wallet at home and wont be able to retrieve it until Wednesday, so im living off $20 that we found in the car at the train station until then. Oh well. These things make life interesting. And i like that life is interesting. For awhile now i’ve felt like i’ve been walking around in a daze, just going through the motions the only break being angry discussions with someone who is no longer present trying to make something work that was sadly past that months ago. But the past two weeks it has lifted and i see all that i have missed.

Edit: I was in such a rush that i didn’t get to post it so i will now just continue. I have been listening to ‘In The Heights’ which is a new musical that won quite a few awards at the Tonys this year including best music and musical. Its pretty amazing, a latino feel, with rap! And i actually love it! I would really recommend finding it and having a listen. It is quite amazing.

Right. Bed.

Oh and should someone actually be reading this, which would be tres’ bizarre. Just for the record, singers are musicians too. AND i actually do know who Gordon Freeman is, i used to play..on steam..a long time ago. :-)

Na night x

Heres In the Heights.. my favorite song is actually the opening number but i cant get it to load. Will try tomorrow.
